If you want to beef up your car collection then this announcement is for you. This January, a rare Aston Martin DB4 GT is going up for auction at RM Auctions in Scottsdale, Ariz. True car lovers might not want to pass this up since this DB4 GT is the last of the 75 competition DB4s built between 1959 and 1963. The road car was unveiled at the Paris Salon in 1958. A year later, the competition version followed and was displayed at the London Motor Show.
Compared to the base car, the GT version is shorter, lighter and more powerful. In fact, it was recognized as the most powerful British car of its era, when power from its 3.7-litre alloy engine was increased to 302bhp from 240bhp. The GT had a wheelbase that was 13cm shorter than the DB4 road car.
With a weight that was reduced by about 90kg, the GT had the ability to accelerate from zero to 60mph in 6.1 seconds. Top speed was recorded at more than 150mph. Originally built at Aston's Newport Pagnell Factory, the DB4 GT used a steel monocoque chassis with coil-spring suspension and disc brakes all round. Exactly 45 of the 75 examples built were supplied in right-hand drive. The Aston Martin DB4 GT up for sale has competed in races at Watkins Glen, Road Atlanta and Laguna Seca, as well as several road rallies and tours on the American west coast. The car is expected to fetch around $1 million.
