U.S. safety regulators announced today that are currently investigating Volvo Car Corp. SUVs due to intermittent electronics defects in components such as headlights and turn signals because these may raise the risk of an accident. The affected models are the Volvo XC90s for model years 2004 and 2005, and according to NHTS there were complaints about intermittent malfunctions of the components in city driving and at highway speeds. The good news is that no crashes or injuries were reported. The problems were solved by replacing the unit controlling the electronic parts. We will provide all the information that NHTSA asks and we'll work closely with the agency to make sure the issue is resolved,¹ said James Hope, a Volvo spokesman.
