The German auto maker Volkswagen linked up with North Sails, the world's leading sail maker, to assist in the development of this special edition Touareg the objective of which was to lower fuel consumption with performance level remaining basically the same. The Special Edition of the Volkswagen Touareg North Sails flaunts an improvement of 9 percent in fuel economy. This feat was obviously attained by doing some adjustments on the transmission points from the transmission to axle. Yet, putting the gigantic Touareg to run in less than 10 liters/100 km for the diesel variant is a truly remarkable achievement. Moreover, the German auto maker, Volkswagen, also maintains that the 2.5 TDI 6-speed manual can run at 9.2 liters /100km and the V6 TDI automatic at 9.3 liters /100km. Details, photos and pricing after the jump! This modified Touareg which has adopted a sleek sailing theme also comes with some luxurious elements from the seafaring world. On the outside it is outfitted with fog lights (what else?), fresh 19 inch wheels and side mirrors and aquamarine blue tinted reflector lenses. Included in the Chrome & Style pack are silver roof rails, bi-xenon headlights with energetic curve lighting and a tint covering 65% of the windows. Likewise, on the inside a marine theme is also observed. The Nappa leather seats come with seam piping in aquamarine, Stainless steel entry strips with North Sail label and off-white Alcantara headliner. However, the production version will not include the binoculars and compass and oak floor panels observed on the design study. For a tag of €56,450 ($71,650), the Special Edtion VW Touareg North Sails can now be purchased and details can obtained from the local VW dealer or yacht club.
