Chevrolet Camaro LS7 Concept
Was created to feature the capability of the new Camaro as a weekend bracket warrior, the Camaro LS7 Concept merges the power of a GM Performance Parts' LS7 crate engine and aimed at easy owner bolt-on upgrades to give the wheels-up spirit of the renowned COPO Camaros. Made well-known by dealers like Don Yenko and Fred Gibb in the late part of the 60s, the COPO cars were bought for only one thing: drag racing. They were promptly outfitted after delivery with the required tires, safety gears and other components necessary for competition in popular Stock-class drag racing series. The LS7 Concept esteem the distinctive qualities of the COPO with features such as drag strip-ready rubber on the rear wheels, unlike many of the stripped-down racers from 40 years ago, this strip-ready participant serves twofold duty as both a drag racer and a regular daily driver.
The LS7 crate engine (PN 17802397) utilizes a high-operating replacement camshaft from GM Performance Parts (PN 12480033) to enable it to generate approximately 550 horsepower. Supporting upgrades consist of GM Performance Parts-improved headers and air intake system that will be available at the Camaro's opening early next year. The LS7 is outfitted with a wet-sump oiling system; the stock engine highlights a dry-sump system that needs an external oil tank. Supporting the LS7 engine is a stock Tremec 6060 six-speed manual with a GM Performance Parts Hurst shifter. The following are additional drivetrain details: Brembo four-wheel disc brake package; Lowered ride height; Custom 20-inch wheels; Driveshaft safety loop GM Performance Parts exhaust system The Camaro LS7 concept is finished with Victory Red paint, with matte black highlights on the hood and tail lamp panel.
"LS7" emblems are deliberately placed and caution the enlightened that this Camaro is serious when the lights count down to green. It's all business on the spartan interior, too, with base trim and few component parts to minimize overall weight for a faster elapsed time. Even though the Camaro LS7 Concept is just a concept, its imitation by innovative buffs and racers is facilitated by GM Performance Parts' LS7 crate engine package. It provides a totally assembled, production variant of the engine, inclusive of everything from the intake manifold to oil pan. An oil tank for the regular dry sump system and GM Performance Parts' LS7 engine controller (PN 19166567) are all that's required to get the engine up and running in a fan's project vehicle, that that and a chassis that is able to handle in excess of 500 lb.-ft. of torque!
