Audi is the first quality brand to launch an impressive long-wheelbase model in the higher mid-size class solely for the Chinese market: the Audi A4L's wheelbase is 60 millimeters (2.36 inches) longer, which is a particular advantage to rear-seat passengers. The A4L consequently provides unequalled roominess in its sector. Built at the plant in Changchun, China, the latest Audi A4L made its opening yesterday in Beijing. Peter Schwarzenbauer, Member of the Board of Management for Marketing and Sales at AUDI AG, and the President of the FAW-VW joint venture, An Tiecheng, highlighted the significance of the new Audi A4L for the Chinese market. Since its international market opening the previous year, over 200,000 vehicles of the Audi A4 have been sold.
It was lately selected as the "Most Beautiful Car of the Year" by readers of Auto Bild, a German automotive magazine, and therefore overall winner of the "Auto Bild Design Award 2008". With the A4L, Audi has produced a vehicle which surpasses rivals in terms of driving comfort, luxury, spaciousness, and design. The chassis was customized to Chinese road conditions to offer outstanding suspension comfort. The wheelbase, which is 60 millimeters (2.36 inches) longer than the A4 sedan's wheelbase, makes the A4L an exceptional vehicle. The longer wheelbase provides the A4L an especially roomy experience and makes getting into the rear seats a lot easier.
Additionally, the longer wheelbase is of particular advantage to rear-seat passengers, who can enjoy legroom unmatched in this vehicle class. Because of the increase in length and high-quality technology, the A4L bring in full-size class into the mid-size category. For now, two engine variants will be made available for the Audi A4L in the Chinese market: the 2.0 TFSI which provides 132 kW (180 hp) and the six-cylinder 3.2 FSI which can give 195 kW (265 hp). Audi has been making a long-wheelbase version of the A6 available in China since 2000. Now in its second generation, it offers improved driving comfort, roominess, and design than the rival. Drivers and passengers of the 4.76 meter (15.62 feet) long A4L will enjoy the same benefits as can be experienced in a chauffeured luxury sedan. The Audi A4L, which will be displayed starting at the Guangzhou Motor Show on November 18, will be at available to buyers through Chinese dealerships early next year.
