Organizers of Italy 's Bologna Motor Show are changing its format due to circumstances that have resulted to it becoming an auto show without displays of production or concept cars. Instead of nine days, the event had been limited by Promoter International to five days.
The show, which is expected to have auto competitions and exhibits, will have the ‚Äúspecial edition‚Äù take place on December 5-8. The drastic change to the show‚ format was caused by the decision of Fiat Group Automobiles on Sept. 22 to pull out. This prompted other automakers to announce on October 2 the cancellation of their participation in the show, according to Promotor International Giada Michetti. Continued after the jump!
It is believed that the 2010 British auto show was cancelled due to reduced carmakers’ budgets that resulted from the current recession. The Barcelona show in May almost didn’t take place, if not for the well-timed government aid.
While the Frankfurt auto show did transpire last month, major automakers such as Honda Motor Co., Nissan Motor Co. and Mitsubishi Motor Corp. chose not to participate to save money.
The estimate starting cost of a large stand at the Frankfurt show is more 1 million euros (about $1.4 million). Entire pavilions provided to multibrand automakers can cost more than 10 million euros ($14 million).
