2009 Mercedes-Benz E-Guard

The trend toward armored luxury cars have been here for quite some time, however, the developments being done in both materials and methods are as fast and diverse as the weapons targeted against them. The latest armored luxury car of Mercedes-Benz, which is based on the latest E-Class, is dubbed the E-Guard and is an example of the latest class of armored luxury. The E-Class was transformed into the E-Guard by inserting specialized steel plates and aramid over the chassis and the standard windows changed with heavy-duty polycarbonate making the car look like a standard E-class on the road. The armored underside can withstand grenade blast such as one from a DM-51 hand grenade and its polycarbonate windows are capable of withstanding close range attacks from a .44 Magnum pistol.

Although these equipments do not qualify the E-Class for warzone participation, these are sufficient for transporting passengers, such as executives and businessmen, safely through city streets from attacks by regular city criminal elements. The E-Class comes with a special Level II variant of the Arimatic suspension system to compensate for the additional load.

Also added into the E-Class are electronic control and restraint systems and 17-inch run-flat tires with 155mph (240km/h) speed rating which enables the car to travel a distance of 31 miles (50 km) and at speeds reaching 50mph (80km/h) even when the tires are totally deflated. This armored luxury vehicle comes with a VAT exclusive price tag of 45,000 Euros ($58,400), about 10,000 Euros ($13,000) more than the regular E-class. The cars can be ordered by April 2009.
