Toyota announced today the unveiling of its new FT-EV Concept at the 2009 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), confirming in this way it future plan to launch an urban commuter battery-electric vehicle (BEV) by 2012. As you can see the new Toyota FT-EV Concept is based on the iQ city car platform which is already a big hit in Japan, due to the fact that it delivers exceptional mileage, sporty performance and a fun, youthful image. The new concept continues the battle for a green environment with its two brother: the 2010 Toyota Prius and the Lexus HS250h. Until the production version of this concept will be launched, the Japanese manufacturer also made public its intensions to build 500 Prius PHVs powered by lithium-ion batteries (150 will be placed with U.S. lease-fleet customers).
