2009 Tokyo Motor Show: Daihatsu Basket Concept makes its debut
Another of Daihatsu’s cars on display at the Tokyo Motor Show is the Basket, which many say is reminiscent of the Citroen Mehari from the 1970s. The Basket is believed to be based on the Mira, Daihatsu’s main 660cc player in Japan. The Basket is converted to four-wheel drive and seats up to four passengers.
Its interior can be considered plain. Apparently, the carmaker didn’t want any frills. The Basket is built on Daihatsu’s FF platform and has separate front and rear roofs. The material used for the front is fiber-reinforced polymer while the rear is made of canvas. The car can be turned into a pickup by folding its rear seats flat and covering them with a hinged metal plate. To expand the interior space, the front seats can also be folded flat.
