The BMW 5-Series Gran Turismo was launched in Hong Kong earlier this month. The model made its first public appearance at the Spasso Bar in Harbour City. Big names that attended include Taiwanese artist Ethan Juan and celebrity models Marie Zhuge and Jessica C. Other well-known figures who were present at the event include director Louis Tan and Chinese-American singer Adrienne Lau. The market that the Gran Turismo is entering is a crowded one. The four-door Gran Turismo, which seats five, has a decent interior space with a plunging, coupe-like roofline design. It is being marketed as a chameleon vehicle that can be used for business, leisure or sports. The Gran Turismo will be offered in two versions -- the 535i GT and the 550i GT. The 535i GT features a BMW TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder in-line engine, a brand new motor that enables the car to accelerate to 100km/h in 6.3 seconds. On the other hand, the 550i GT has a 407 hp BMW TwinPower Turbo V8 engine that pushes the car to reach 100km/h in 5.5 seconds and uses up only 11.2 liters of fuel per 100 km. The Gran Turismo operates with an 8-speed automatic transmission. A large panorama roof allows passengers to gaze at the night-sky. Furthermore, the car offers a two-part luggage system, which loads a variety of items in different sizes. [via jameslist]
