For those who were waiting the new inline-6 engine to make its debut on the Bmw 5-Series GT, we have good news: the Bavarian manufacturer decided to reveal the new U.S.-spec model in January, at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show. According to Bmw, the new powerplant combines the turbocharging, High Precision Injection, and variable VALVETRONIC valve management in one engine for the first time. Also, it delivers an impressive 300 hp @5,800 rpm and 300 lb-ft of torque from 1,200 to 5,000 rpm. This means that the new engine has the same level of power as the current 3.0-liter twin-turbo six-cylinder but with the innovation of twin-scroll technology and the integration of VALVETRONIC, this new engine will be even more fuel efficient. Mated to Bmw's new 8-speed automatic transmission the new engine will be capable to push the car from naught to sixty in just 6.2 seconds.
