In 2004, when the X3 was released there were no existing competition yet such as the Mercedes-Benz GLK or the Audi Q5. With the advent of competitions from other German carmakers, it has been reported that BMW is moving up the release of its 2010 X3 to ensure that it will get a competitive edge. The latest model will come with greater dimensions: it will be four inches longer, half an inch narrower and taller by a fraction of an inch. Interior space is aided by the extra length; however, the Sport Activity Vehicle is reportedly tuned for enhanced sporting performance. Included in the features are carried over from the 7 series like Night Vision and Heads Up Display and, at least in Europe, the offering of six powerplants that will include two gasoline and four diesel units.
