2010 Chevrolet Camaro could outsell 2010 Mustang in 2009
If the sales trend continues, the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro could be well on its way to outsell the 2010 Ford Mustang this year. The famous rivalry won’t take this lightly since this hasn’t happened since 1985. In October, the Camaro outsold the Mustang, the fifth consecutive month that it has done so. There are only two months left in the year and the Camaro leads by 9,200 units so the Mustang has a tremendous task cut out for it. Continued after the jump!
Through October, GM sold 47,233 Camaros to Ford’s 56,469 Mustangs. What makes this achievement even more impressive is that Camaro has recorded only nine months of sales compared to the Mustang’s full year.
Erich Merkle, analyst at Autoconomy.com, told the Detroit Free Press that the Camaro’s success was expected. He pointed out that there are still enough baby boomers out there who are able to purchase a Camaro. George Pipas, Ford’s top sales analyst, is unfazed with the sales success of the Camaro. Pipas said that Mustang would not have been different one way or another.
He described that the trend right now is illustrative of “ten years of pent-up demand… rather than some positive indicator about the economy.”
