Triac Electric VehicleOne of the most talked about attendees of the “Electric Avenue” at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit was the manufacturer Green Vehicles. It displayed the Triac pure electric vehicle and coincided that with the announcement that production for the three-wheeler will soon begin. Mike Ryan, Green Vehicles’ president said that the Triac will help reduce the number of polluting vehicles on the road but at the same, it will give drivers, “the real pleasure of experiencing well-applied technology at an affordable price.” Continued after the jump! The Triac was introduced in April 2008 as a prototype. Depending on how it was operated, it was capable of a highway speed of 80 mph and a range of 80 to 100+ miles. For the 2010 model year, presented at NAIAS, the range is extended by 20 miles more. Charging can be done on any 110v or 220v standard outlet, with the full charge taking at least six hours. The Traic employs an advanced IT system, which integrates the battery management system (BMS), GPS, motor controller function and vehicle diagnostics. It is capable of providing feedback on efficiency during charge, tracks energy storage and provides navigation information for the driver. Ryan added that feedback from early adopters had been critical in maximizing drivability, IT system usability, comfort, and performance under real-world driving conditions.
