2010 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR sets new lap record at Laguna Seca

2010 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR
Dodge estimates that about 500 units will be produced for the 2010 Dodge Viper SRT10. Historically, the Dodge Viper has always been a raw sports car and for 2010, the carmaker made the most minimal of changes. The 2010 model uses the same 600-hp, 8.4-liter V-10 engine that debuted in the 2008 model. Many of its performance specifications are the same as well. The car is able to go from 0 to 60 mph in under 4 seconds and it can go a quarter-mile in 11 seconds.
To control a car with this much power, the Viper was given the same 14-inch Brembo brakes of previous models, allowing the Viper to stop from 60 mph in less than 100 feet. Dodge apparently felt that the 2009 Viper only needed to improve two aspects -- the interior and the transmission. Aside from a combination of black and contrasting stitching, Dodge now offers a new premium tan Nappa leather interior option. The transmission was upgraded by adding a ZF Sachs twin-disc clutch, the result of which lowered the clutch's rotating inertia by 18 percent, reduced pedal effort, and improved engagement feel.
The Viper ACR, a hardcore track version of the sports car, was added to the Viper lineup with the introduction of the 2008 models. In 2009, the Viper grabbed the Corvette ZR1's Nurburgring record. This year, the 2010 Viper ACR was taken to Laguna Seca Raceway in California to recapture the production car lap record. It was unsanctioned but still, Dodge rejoiced at having achieved a record time of 1:33.915. It should be noted that the 2010 model year marks the last year of production for the Viper in its current form. There are no forecasts on what the fate of the Viper would be after Dodge eventually ends its production of the 2010 model. However, there are those who would like to think the worst in light of Chrysler's recent bankruptcy and change of ownership.
