2010 Ford Taurus gets five-star crash ratings

The 2010 Ford Taurus didn´t really need to get an award before we could be sure of its prowess in safety but it might as well be official. Recently, the all-new Taurus has received five-star ratings for driver and passenger in front and side crash tests from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) had actually already beaten the NHTSA to the chase as it had previously given the title of Top Safety Pick to the Taurus. Sue Cischke, group vice president for Ford Sustainability, Environment and Safety Engineering, said that the new Taurus is the Ford safety flagship with top safety ratings and advanced crash-protection and crash-avoidance technologies that consumers would most likely not find in luxury vehicles that cost much more.
Making the Taurus even safer is a stiffer body structure and new crash-avoidance technologies. It's well-known that the Taurus is engineered to handle an impact well while keeping its passengers safe but did you know that it also features crash-avoidance technologies? This includes a segment-first, radar-based forward collision warning system that warns drivers of impending collisions. The system, which is enabled by Adaptive Cruise Control, uses a radar sensor to detect moving vehicles ahead. It then provides a visual heads-up warning signal as well as an audible warning when slower-moving traffic is detected ahead.
