2011 Mini Countryman
BMW has finally unveiled the fourth model of the MINI range, the Countryman Crossover at the Geneva Motor Show. The MINI Countryman is available with three petrol and two diesel engines. Power outputs range from 90 hp (MINI One D Countryman) to 184 hp (MINI Cooper S Countryman). The car's 1.6l four-cylinder petrol engine comes with a twin-scroll turbocharger and direct fuel injection, as well as fully variable valve management.
The MINIMALISM fuel efficiency concept utilized by these engines helps to meet EU5 and ULEV II emission standards. This concept comprises Brake Energy Regeneration, Auto Start Stop, a gearshift point indicator, and on-demand management of the engine's ancillary units. Adding to the eco performances of the car is the use of a six-speed manual gearbox. Incidentally, the petrol engine models are also available with six-speed automatic complete with Steptronic. This model is equipped with permanent MINI ALL4 all-wheel drive, an electrohydraulic differential positioned directly on the final drive varying the distribution from front to rear in "an infinite process."
Under normal conditions, the system directs 50% of the engine's power to the rear wheels. But with more strenuous conditions, it directs all of it. The system is aided by Electric Power Steering with Servotronic, Dynamic Stability Control, Dynamic Traction Control as well as an electronic limited-slip function. This MINI is designed to break into other segments of the market. It is made taller, longer and is now boasting of a larger interior space. A four-seater Countryman, the first MINI with four doors, will come as standard. A three-seat bench will also be offered.
