Honda announced today that it will recall almost 3,340 2010 model year Accord Crosstour vehicles in order to inspect and potentially replace the front passenger airbag. Apparently, recent testing to US Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) revealed the fact that certain models’ front passenger airbag modules don’t meet one aspect of FMVSS 208 that “requires airbag deployment to be tested using an unbelted six year-old child test dummy in the front seating area”.

The good news is that no incidents or injuries were reported in the United States or Canada related to this issue. Furthermore, Honda recommends that children under the age of 12 must be properly restrained in the car’s rear seat.

According to Honda, in Canada 780 units were affected but these are compliant with the current requirements of Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (CMVSS). However, Honda Canada will conduct a 'Safety Improvement Campaign' in order to notify all owners of affected vehicles. The owners can take their vehicles to an authorized Honda dealer to have the front passenger airbag inspected and replaced, only if necessary.
