Today it was made public by Honda Motor Co., Ltd. that their Insight Hybrid has gained the honor of being the industry's best-selling vehicle among new registrations in Japan for April 2009, with 10,481 units. This is the first time in Japan's automotive history that a hybrid model got this honor for any monthly sales period. For calendar year 2008 the title was won by the Honda Fit, the fiscal year ended March 31, 2009. The industry's best selling car for the month of March 2009 also went to Fit, and this is the fourth successive month beginning last December, until it was replaced by the Insight, when it has fallen to the position of second best-selling car in April this year, with 9,443 units sold. This is the first time that the auto industry's two top-selling car positions were ever occupied by Honda.
