The manufacturer of the new 2010 Hyundai Sonata , which was released in Korea today, is justifiably enthusiastic about its new model. If you're in Europe , expect the Sonata to be named the i40. In the UK, the car will go on sale late next year. Sales in Europe will begin with the estate, followed by the saloon and hatch models in 2011. Speaking at the launching ceremony for the car in Seoul , Euisun Chung, Hyundai's vice chairman, said that the Sonata is a huge leap forward in terms of styling and quality.
Chung went even so far as to say that it sets a new standard for world-class mid-size sedans with state-of-the-art technology, superior build quality and emotional design. The new Sonata is expected to raise Hyundai's brand values.
An insider had been reported to have said that the engine range is exceptional and will include the 'R' diesels announced for the ix35 and Santa Fe . It also includes a series of small petrol and diesel engines. At 4820mm long, 1835mm wide and 1470mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2795mm, the new Korean spec Sonata is a little longer, wider, and slightly lower than the outgoing car.
"The new Sonata delivers powerful performance through its 2-liter Theta II MPi gasoline engine (Max output 165ps). Delivering the highest fuel economy in its segment at 12.8 kilometers per liter, fuel economy is more than 11% improved compared with today's Sonata. Furthermore, all engines are offered with a new six-speed automatic transmission for heightened performance. To meet the most stringent automotive safety and crash requirements, the Sonata is built with hot-stamped ultra high-strength steel while featuring six standard airbags. In addition, safety has been upgraded with standard Vehicle Dynamic Control including Hill-start Assist Control and Brake Assist System functions-an industry first in this competitive segment".
