Kia's new seven-seat 2010 Sorento SUV that was launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show is more aerodynamic than the current generation model. It is lower and longer than the outgoing model with an increase in length to 4685mm, up from 4567mm. Drag coefficient is now 0.38, down from 0.43. Kia claims that the car is designed to incorporate Kia's new design language. The interior is described to be more spacious and luxurious. Its 2.2-litre diesel unit, which is predicted by Kia to be the most popular engine in Europe, produces 194bhp and 310lb ft of torque. It will be mated to either a six-speed manual or its new six-speed auto's transmission. Panu Vainamo, Kia's European manager for marketing, said that in the new Sorento, Kia has created an all-new "Highline Cruiser" that offers the benefits of an all-rounder with a broader appeal. Because Kia has replaced the original Sorento's body-on-frame structure with an all-new monocoque bodyshell, a weight loss of up to 215 kg was achieved. Kia claims that this improves fuel economy and contributes to a more controlled ride than expected from a 4x4. Kia asserts that it has produced a road-biased set-up for the new model, without losing any or the original model's off-road ability.
