All Kia Venga owners are asked to contact their local dealer to have a safety modification installed on their vehicles. During recent Euro NCAP crash tests, a problem was detected on Venga’s restraint system.

A cut in the webbing of the driver’s seatbelt was seen after the frontal impact test. Euro NCAP concluded that this was a result of the “interaction” with the seat runners. About 2,100 Kia Vengas are affected by this announcement. Continued after the jump!

The cars that will be returned to the dealers will be fitted with a polypropylene sleeve that will be added to the belt. The delivery of all new cars will also be delayed until the device is fitted.

However, the Venga still earned a four-star rating in the tests. Dr Michiel van Ratingen, secretary general of Euro NCAP, said that a seat belt with a reduced capability poses a serious risk to the driver and passenger, while also compromising the validity of the Euro NCAP rating awarded to the car.

So that the four-star rating applies, customers must ensure that the modification is fitted. The organization actually introduced higher standards for its star ratings this year and in the latest tests, it was only Toyota Verso that got a perfect five-star rating.
