At the 2010 LA Auto Show, Lotus unveiled the new 2013 Elan Concept, a high-performance 2+2 sports car that is now set to make its debut in the second half of 2013. The Elan has an initial price of GBP75,000 ($118,000). A 4.0-liter engine powers this car, delivering up to 450 PS and 465 Nm of torque at 7,800 rpm. The mid-engined and rear-wheel drive car, which is paired to a 7-speed DCT transmission, can reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.5 seconds and has a top speed of 310 km/h or 192 mph. With a total weight of 1,295 kg, the car will come with an optional hybrid technology with KERS, the same used in Formula 1.
Group Lotus’ CEO Dany Bahar says the 2013 Elan is perfect for both road and track. He is confident that the 2013 Elan will convert people to go for Lotus. He says that when potential buyers test-drive a 2013 Elan, they will realize what they’ve been missing all along and “won’t look back.” He regards this model as the “essence of Lotus.”
“The Elan will convert people to Lotus, I would challenge people not to become addicted to driving it. It will also go a long way towards dispelling the old misconceptions about this class, that in order to have high performance you must sacrifice usability – those days are gone.” said Dany Bahar, Chief Executive Officer of Group Lotus.
