2011 Mitsubishi i-MiEV U.S.-Spec
At last, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) announced today that the North American version of the i-MiEV new-generation electric vehicle will make its debut at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show, next week. Together with this announcement, the Japanese manufacturer also released the first photos with the new car. Still, this is not the only surprise from the LA Auto Show, as the carmaker is also bringing the Outlander Sport compact CUV (RVR in Japan, ASX in Europe), a new car that will go on sale in North America by the end of this year.
Comparing it to the Japanese- and European-spec versions, the North American version of the i-MiEV comes with an enlarged body structure in order to be sure that it offers plenty of space for four adults but also to better meet the expectations of U.S. consumers. As you can see from the photos, the car features all-new front and rear bumpers, but the rest of the design remains the same.
Furthermore, the new car will offer plenty of standard equipment such as airbags that automatically detect passengers and control deployment force, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), and Active Stability Control (ASC). Regarding the new Outlander Sport, this car will come with the 2.0-liter MIVEC engine mated to a INVECS 2III-CVT Sportronic (six-speed sport-mode CVT) transmission (five-speed manual transmission also available on some trim levels). According to Mitsubishi, the new gearbox will deliver better fuel consumption as well as lower CO2 emissions.
