2010 Lexus LS 600h revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show

Lexus Logo

Lexus made quite an appearance at the Frankfurt Auto Show with its new LS 600H, a completely hybrid colossus which benefited of important technological and design upgrades. The revised model features re-worked seats, improved equipment, new Eco driving mode and re-worked larger 380mm ventilated front disc brakes with six-piston callipers, rotors and pads developed with the help of specialist manufacturer Brembo.

The new LS 600h is powered by a Lexus Hybrid Drive system featuring a new ECO mode which helps to improve fuel economy due to a higher performance of the air conditioning and a lower charging on the engine under acceleration. Due to an innovative packaging the battery was split in two sections of 6 and 14 modules reducing the overall size and giving a larger space for deposit in the boot. All the modifications made to the LS 600h's Hybrid Drive System meet the Euro V exhaust emissions standards keeping in the same time its performance at high level: a mixture between the 5.0L V8 petrol engine and the 165kW electric motor, producing an output of 439bHP, reaching 100km/h in 6.3 sec.

The interior was also modified, presenting a reworked binnacle programmed to recognise a new full colour, TFT LCD display, a new meter with three-ring analogue dial with a central speedometer, a tachometer and coolant temperature gauge to the left, and a fuel gauge and hybrid system indicator to the right. The EMV multi-display touch screen has large switches and redesigned layout for the audio controls. The audio switch is now made of aluminium giving a premium and qualitative look. The front seats are fitted with new inflator operated active headrests.

The system is activated from the airbag ECU and if a rear impact should occur, the inflator slides a piston into the headrest unlocking a mechanism that projects it forward and upward reducing the risk of serious injuries. The car can also be available with seat arrangement featuring a 40:20:40 design with an upper seatback reclining mechanism, fully retractable leg and footrest and lower back massage function, all operated using a remote controller At the exterior the LS 600h features a new 4-bar grille and front bumper with re-worked air intakes and fog lamps. The car gets also new door mirrors that incorporate twin LED turn signals and puddle lamps, all in chrome finish.

The exterior colour is available in various combinations such as Mesa Red, Vanilla Mist, Richmond Green, Atlantic Blue newly available or the hybrid-exclusive Crystal Sapphire. As the previous models of Lexus the LS 600H also gets a new hard disc drive navigation system with 40GB capacity covering almost all Europe in terms of traffic information data. The vehicle is also fitted with a DAB audio system providing a new "sound library" function, using the navigation system's HDD to transfer and store music files from CD up to 10GB capacity - the equivalent of about 2,000 music tracks. The new LS 600h will be available starting with 2010 but the order list is already opened.
