2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
The forthcoming Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe will hit the market with a sticker price lower than the E-Class Sedan on which it was patterned, striking a major blow for the BMW 3-Series Coupe and Audi A5. Although the CLK, the predecessor of the latest Coupe, costs several thousands more than the E-Class Sedan in majority of markets, except the US, this differential will no longer hold true for the new E-Class versions. The E-Class sedan comes with a competitive price tag, with a starting price about $4,600 under the previous model's tag. The 2010 E350, the entry model, will come with a tag of $49,475 while the top of the line V8 E550 will begin at $57,175. The price tag for the Coupe begins at just $48,925 for the E350 version; meanwhile the E550 starts at $55,525. There were initial reports suggesting that the prices would most likely be the same or similar because the E-Class Coupe comes with most of the equipment and powertrain elements of the Sedan.
Although coupe and convertible versions typically attract a price premium over their sedan counterparts, it appears now that Mercedes is trying a new and aggressive pricing line of attack to blow the competition out of the water. The latest E-Class, like the CLK, will be positioned slightly above the BMW 3-Series Coupe and Audi A5. The two-door Mercedes, besides being less expensive, is also one of the best luxury coupes observed for some time, and it will certainly be the choice of buyers next to competitors.
This June, both E-Class Sedan and Coupe will hit the market, but that's just the beginning. This coming September, at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the carmaker will remove the wraps off of its latest E-Class Cabrio together with the E-Class Estate Wagon, but these will most likely come with price premium over the Sedan. The announcement for the pricing of the 2010 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG and E350 BlueTec diesel models is reserved for later.
