2011 Lexus CT 200h

Lexus introduced the production version CT 200h model, its first hybrid model in the small luxury car segment, at the Paris Motor Show. In the past few months, the Japanese luxury carmaker has revealed bits and pieces of what to expect from the car. But just recently, Lexus released full details of this model that’s expected to start selling in early 2011. Lexus’ Hybrid Drive technology is featured on the CT 200h, which can run on its petrol engine or electric motor alone, or both at the same time. The CT 200h is equipped with an Atkinson cycle 1.8-litre VVT-i petrol engine and a powerful electric motor that is capable of producing 134bhp. It also comes with a 202V battery and a power control unit.

Notably, the car has an electronic continuously variable transmission (E-CVT) and its engine is Euro V compliant. Lexus has previously reported that the car was designed to perform in two distinct driving “moods”: Relaxing or Dynamic. And because of its bespoke suspension design, these “moods” are supported by four driving modes: NORMAL, EV, ECO and SPORT. The car measures 4,320mm long, 1,765mm wide and 1,440mm high, with a 2,600mm wheelbase. Lexus also tweaked its aerodynamic features, which now enable the car to achieve the lowest coefficient of drag in the small luxury car class – Cd 0.28.

With the safety of its occupants and pedestrians in mind, Lexus made sure that the CT 200h meets the five-star Euro NCAP independent crash test standard. The car can be equipped with Lexus’ Pre-Crash Safety system (PCS), with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC). -- a first for the C-segment. Safety standard equipment includes ABS with Brake Assist, Traction Control (TRC) and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC). The CT 200h has eight airbags, with knee airbags for driver and front passenger. Seatbelts are fitted in all five seats. These seatbelts feature emergency locking retractors, with the front and outer rear seat belts equipped with pretensioners and force limiters as well.
