Right on the heels of smart’s electric scooter debut, MINI also has chosen to release details and images of its Scooter E concept. MINI will actually display three retro-inspired scooter concepts to the upcoming show. The first one (in white and blue) is aptly named “Ego,” as it offers mobility for a single person. The second (in blue and lime green) is called “E” as it is focused on environmental issues.
The third is a British Racing green two-wheeler -- the ultra-retro member of the family. Powering the scooters is a rear hub-mounted electric motor that also works as a kinetic energy recovery system during the braking phase. It also gets a lithium-ion battery pack that provides a range of around 62 miles (100 km). The scooters are priced more than EUR2,500 each and have a top speed of 37mph (60 km/h).
Recharging the battery is done via an on-board power cable that is integrated in the rear side of the vehicle. The two-wheelers are heavily inspired by numerous design features from the current MINI car models, including the headlights design. Similar to the smart escooter, MINI’s creations also have a special interface that links with smartphones via Bluetooth. This enables the rider to access many functions using his helmet.
