2010 Paris Motor Show: Peugeot EX1 Concept is weird, but we like it

For a company to still be around after 200 years is definitely no easy feat and Peugeot is celebrating it in style with a concept car at the Paris Motor Show. Peugeot recently distributed pictures of the EX1, a 100% electric sporty vehicle that has already shattered several world records for acceleration from a standing start. This two-seater roadster, which has styling that could only be described as futuristic, has streamlined aerodynamics. The Peugeot EX1 has an ultra-light structure and has two electric motors. It has a cumulative maximum power of 250 kW (340 bhp) and four-wheel drive. The architecture of this car appears to be inspired by previous concept cars such as the Asphalte and 20Cup.
Its body styling is similar to that of the SR1 concept car shown earlier this year. Meanwhile, the polished aluminum components on the door bring to mind the RCZ and BB1. Peugeot said that the EX1 concept car is based on an architecture “shaped like a water droplet” and that its rear section is built around two closely set rear wheels. It added that its front suspension has a drop link double wishbone arrangement.
Furthermore, the rear suspension consists of a single “swinging arm” linked to a centrally mounted shock absorber which is connected via a rocker arm to provide a variable damping rate. The monocoque body structure is made from a carbon/honeycomb composite to optimize weight and rigidity. The EX1 is powered by two electric motors, one on each axle, and each with a peak output of 125 kW (250 kW / 340 bhp in total), and a maximum torque of 240 Nm. The driver, who is seated at floor level, drives the car with two control handles. Its wind deflector allows the car to be driven around on a daily basis without a helmet.
