2010 Sema Preview: Chevrolet Camaro T-Top by Drop Top Customs

The T-Top is coming back in the form of a kit from Drop Top Customs for the current Chevrolet Camaro. Convertibles aren’t exactly known for being safe and in the past, the T-Top was offered if the car owner wanted to have structural rigidity. Drop Top Customs, the aftermarket customizers known for making convertibles, said that the T-Top is not a factory option but that this will address structural rigidity issues, even for the most powerful 6.2-liter LSA supercharged versions. Getting a T-Top presents many advantages.
It’s cheap to convert from the coupe, development costs will be lower than a convertible and you still have the no-roof option and the trunk is usable. Hopefully, it won’t leak or squeak like the old T-Top Camaros. There’s a clamor for GM to offer this as a factory option. But while GM has yet to grant this request, asking for the T-Top is the only way right now to have the top down in a Camaro.
GM’s own convertible is expected to enter production in early 2011. This kit will be introduced at the upcoming SEMA Show in Las Vegas and is expected to start selling by November. This kit from Drop Top Customs is priced at $6,500, which will be added to the base price of the 2010 car the customer prefers -- between $29,775 for the LS model and $34,180 for the 2SS version.
