Marking the 110th anniversary of AC Cars is the introduction of its latest model, the 2011 AC Cobra MkVI, at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. This car, which sells for €109,000 (about $150,000 at the current exchange rate), is powered by a classic American V8 engine -- the 430 bhp unit used in the Corvette. Hand-crafted recreations of the iconic AC-badged cars are available from three locations throughout the world (two in Europe and one in the US).
In particular, AC Cars has set up the AC Heritage Centre in the UK, AC Germany (now in production with the AC MkV) and Iconic Motors in the U.S. In a statement, Chairman of AC Cars Limited, Alan Lubinsky, said that in recent months, the company chose to keep a low profile as it worked with the members of the AC family worldwide to “breathe new life into [its] revered brand.”
Lubinsky explained that as AC Cars considers achievement to be the key to its future, its announcement of a new model will mean that it’s already for sale. This is the principle that it has used for the AC Mk VI. He said that the company will announce more developments in 2011. He added that this is the first time in a decade that the company can offer “genuine, high quality cars from a range of proven production sources.”
