Audi is currently working on the top version of the A1 – the S1 – that is set to debut at the Geneva Auto Show next year. The German hot hatch will be powered by the same engine (and platform) as the Volkswagen Polo GTI, SEAT Ibiza Cupra and Skoda Fabia vRS. But according to an Autoexpress report, the 1.4 liter TSI powerplant will get a power and torque upgrade. The A1’s turbocharged and supercharged engine has an output of 178 hp but the S1 will deliver almost 200hp.This enables the vehicle to accelerate from zero to 62mph in less than seven seconds and to reach a top speed of more than 140 mph. The unit will be partnered with a seven-speed DSG double-clutch gearbox that permits the driver to opt to change gears using a set of steering-wheel mounted paddles. Reports say that this vehicle will be the only Audi S model to come with front wheel drive. Audi has recently decided to scrap the quattro four-wheel-drive system and use an electronic system to control the understeer during cornering. This will brake the inside wheel when the vehicle begins to understeer.
