2011 Buick Regal sedan will be built in Oshawa, Ontario

2011 Buick RegalAs General Motors Co. begins production of the all-new, 2011 Buick Regal sedan in Oshawa, Ontario, 600 assembly jobs will be restored. The Regal, which is based on the 2009 Opel Insignia, joins the Chevrolet Impala sedan and Chevrolet Camaro in Oshawa.

These three vehicles are on separate GM platforms. Previously, GM had announced that the range-topping CLX version of the Regal will be built in Russelsheim, Germany, in the second quarter of 2010 before shifting to a North American factory. Since June, Oshawa has been running on overtime to cope with the demand for the Camaro. Arturo Elias, president of General Motors of Canada, said that the production of the new Regal in Oshawa is “terrific news for [its] employees, the Canadian Auto Workers, dealers and suppliers.” In a statement, GM confirmed that production of the Regal and the Camaro convertible will start in the first quarter of 2011.
