2011 Challenger Drag Pak says hello to the 2010 SEMA Show

2011 Challenger Drag Pak
Mopar installed a V-10 into the 2011 Challenger Drag Pak, boosting the output to 600hp. Last year’s model was impressive with just the V-8 but the new vehicle offers drivers more firepower at the strip. Notably, there are many common features shared by the 2011 Challenger Drag Pak and previous Drag Pak applications. Last year’s model featured a 6.1-liter V-8 while the upcoming model has an 8.4-liter V-10, which is similar to the powerplant in the late Viper. In the Viper, this engine generated 600hp and 560 pound-feet of torque. But as Mopar calibrates the engine for drag duty, these figures are expected to change.
The car, which was built purposely for drag racing, features a two-speed automatic transmission, live rear axle, and wheels and tires ready for the 1320. To reduce the car’s weight, its windshield wipers, heating and cooling, power steering, and rear seats were all removed. Instead, the car was fitted with a couple of lightweight seats, new gauges, and a fuel cell. White is the standard paint scheme but buyers may opt for other colors (adding $6800 to the final price).
The Challenger Drag Pak is priced at $85,512 and is not allowed on public roads. To ensure the safety of the driver, the Competition Package (priced at $7950) offers safety equipment such as a roll cage, mesh window netting, and six-point harnesses. The drag racer made its debut at the Viper invitational in Salt Lake City, Utah.
