Rumor: 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8 coming with cylinder deactivation and 480 hp

2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8

It appears that Dodge is preparing some changes for the 2011 model year Challenger and according to the latest reports these will include an electric power steering system, a rumored floor pan, new door handles similar to those on the Charger, a wagon-style Dodge Magnum switch to pop the trunk open as well as the new Dodge logo (Ram emblem will be removed on the new model). What is more interesting is that the 6.4 SRT8 Challenger will receive a wrap-around front spoiler incorporating the black flap at the front edge described by our sources as having an Abe Lincoln beard and side burns.

Also, the aluminum manifold will be replaced by a plastic one on the 6.4. The bad news is that the SRT8 will keep the traditional hydraulic steering pump although other Challengers will receive electric steering. Inside we will see major upgrades such as moving to Garmin navigation, new safety features and A/V options. Sources confirmed the fact that the dashboard will be dramatically upgraded and the materials used will be improved.

Under the hood we will see big improvements: the power delivered by the engines is expected to rise in the upcoming Pentastar V6 engines, generating around 290 hp. The new bigger 6.4 liter SRT8 will have cylinder deactivation, helping real world gas mileage and the big surprise is that it will deliver an impressive 480 hp. Chrysler is also considering a new eight-speed ZF automatic transmission.[via allpar]
