The official launching of the new Ford Fiesta, the U.S.-spec 2011 model, will be at the 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show. The latest Fiesta has been hitting the roads of Europe for almost a year now however; the North American Fiesta will only arrive at dealers next summer. The subcompact has sold 340,000 units since it was launched, marking it as the second most popular vehicle in Europe.

These sales figures have contributed to Ford's success at increasing its European market share for the 8th consecutive month. Ford is aiming for its latest model to be regarded with similar interest in the US.

Ford believes that 97% of consumers attracted to the Fiesta don't currently own a Ford vehicle. Meanwhile, there is speculation that aside from the launching of the U.S. car at the L.A. show, Ford might also be unveiling a four-door sedan variant. This has long been anticipated for the North American market, especially with the display of the "North American" Verve concept at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show.
