2011 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 shows up ahead of Detroit Auto Show
These are the photos of the ‘5.0′ badge to the front fender of the 2011 Ford Mustang that is set to make a grand return. Fans are sure to be pleased about this news especially that the Mustang isn’t only an iconic pony car or a retro-modern throwback to simpler times.
It has always been a fan-favorite and it has held the support of team of drivers, manufacturers and tuners. Ford displayed its 2011 Mustang at the 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show held earlier this month. Ford showed the base V-6 model, which had been upgraded with a new 3.7-liter engine that has an output of 305hp and 280 lb-feet of torque. Continued after the jump!
At the 2010 Detroit Auto Show next month, the Blue Oval will be unveiling the new V-8 powered GT, which will pack a 5.0-liter V-8 with 412hp and 390 lb-feet of torque. This figure makes it just 14hp lower than the output of the Chevrolet Camaro SS.
The new engine of the 2011 Ford Mustang will come with four valves per cylinder and Ford’s latest and twin independent variable valve timing. Standard equipment includes tuned exhaust headers, a forged-steel crankshaft, high-performance pistons and connecting rods.
Buyers can opt for a 6-speed automatic or 6-speed manual transmission. Ford claims that fuel economy is as high as 25 mpg but this is probably a highway figure. These photos are early leaks but full-resolution photos and its details will likely be revealed as the show nears.
