After few leaked photos, the Mercedes-Benz F125 Concept was unveiled today at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, marking firm’s 125th anniversary. As we told you yesterday, the F125 Concept is powered by four electric motors installed near the wheels, capable to deliver a continuous output of 170 kW (231 hp) and a peak output of 230 kW (313 hp). This enables the F125 Concept to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.9 seconds and has a top speed of 220 km/h.
Despite the impressive performances, the car needs only 0.79 kilograms of hydrogen per 100 kilometres (= 2.7 litres diesel equivalent). Regarding the range of the car, Mercedes-Benz says that the F125 Concept can travel up to 1000 km, but only 50 km can be under battery-electric power. The F125 Concept has a fuel tank integrated into the floor assembly, which has a capacity of around 7.5 kg of hydrogen. This means less installation space, and more space for the passengers. What is more interesting is that the concept uses an advanced lithium-sulphur battery, which has a storage capacity of 10 kWh and is installed behind the rear seats.
"With the F 125! we want to show that large, comfortable and safe saloon cars have an excellent future, partly because they are able to operate with no emissions. The legend that is the S-Class will continue into the future thanks to intelligent solutions that always have the customer's needs in mind," says Prof. Dr. Thomas Weber, member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG, responsible for Group Research and Mercedes-Benz Cars Development. "The new research vehicle illustrates and underlines this claim to leadership with innovative ideas and traditional Mercedes strengths in the areas of design, safety, comfort and performance."
