2011 Geneva Motor Show Preview: Renault Captur Concept

Renault Captur Concept

Renault revealed today the Captur Concept, a new design study that will make its word debut in March, at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. As you can see from the photos, the new Renault Captur Concept carries the same design philosophy seen also on the DeZir Concept defined by the simple, sensuous and warm style. Designed as a fun and sporty crossover for young people, the new Captur Concept adopts the new front grille seen on the DeZir Concept and its design is completed by the 22-inch black and white rims. The interior is exactly what you expected from a concept car and features fluorescent highlights picked out by a constant stream of light.

According to colour and trim designer, Kana Watanabe, the inspiration came from the human body, outdoor sports and urban styling. The vehicle is powered by the Energy dCi 160 twin-turbo engine concept which will eventually replace the 1.9 dCi. The engine delivers 118kW (160hp) from a capacity of 1.6 litres and a maximum torque of 380Nm from 1,750rpm.

This engine is mated to a dual clutch EDC gearbox, and it is capable to deliver CO2 emissions of less than 99g per kilometer. Furthermore, the Captur Concept uses the RX2 system which improves traction at low speeds. According to Renault, this new mechanical self-locking differential transfers all or part of the engine’s torque to the wheel with the most grip. Captur also comes with the Visio-System, an innovation that uses a forward-facing camera mounted at the top of the windscreen to provide driver-assistance functions.
