Toyota announced today that it will bring the second version of the FT-86 sports concept, in March at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show. Dubbed Toyota FT-86 II Concept, the new car will give the clearest indication yet of the final design for Toyota's next sports car. As you may know already, Toyota has a tradition of over 50 years in creating exciting sports cars, and this new concept embodies the company's reborn passion for sports car driving.
Regarding the first version of the concept, the FT-86, this car was inspired by old sports cars, including the Celica, MR2, Supra and Corolla AE86 models. The FT-86 was powered by a 2.0-liter petrol unit with a six-speed manual gearbox.
Although we didn’t have any details regarding the total output of the engine, Toyota says that the small powerplant is capable to deliver accessible performance and enhanced driving pleasure. The FT-86 has a total length of 4,160mm and uses an ultra-lightweight components. Instead of considering the 2+2 interior design as a stylized addition to the cabin framework, Toyota applied a thin, tight-fitting skin to the essential cockpit components.
