Range Rover Evoque Bike Concept
A bike from the Range Rover Evoque family was unveiled at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. The bike was created by the Land Rover design team, with director, Gerry McGovern, at its helm. The Evoque bike is light and boasts a clean and contemporary design. It also offers a fast, agile and secure road-racing performance. The bike has a high modulus carbon fibre monocoque frame, built by Karbona with the use of techniques derived from Formula 1. Meant to complement the rest of the bike are the oversized carbon fibre handlebar stem and aerospace alloy handle bars. These were built to handle the high torque developed by top-class sports cyclists and guarantee safe control of the machine at high speeds.
The advanced composite construction permitted the seat tube section to be integrated into the frame, reducing weight and extending the clean flow of the design. The color of the steering components matches the frame, which features Range Rover and Evoque branding graphics. The transmission is a 20-gear Shimano Ultegra system. The steering bearings are integrated into the head of the frame to cut drag and the steering fork is also made of carbon fibre.
The drivetrain and braking systems are indicative of the attention to luxury detailing that all Range Rover products have. These are finished in matching black chrome and the saddle is upholstered in fine leather, with padded grip tape enhanced with silicone gel. The wheels, which make a strong visual impact, were specially commissioned for the Evoque project. They were made from aero-profiled carbon fibre and they have a deep section intended to cut through the air quickly while maintaining stability. The tire thread is made from triple-density rubber compound with hard-wearing and high-grip qualities.
