2011 Hyundai Elantra coming to the LA Auto Show

Hyundai’s future product lineup will include three new small cars. One of these is the new Elantra that will debut at the end of this year at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The Elantra, which is known worldwide as the Avante, is a major redesign of Hyundai's compact sedan. Hyundai has yet to release complete details but so far, what we know is that this car has updated exterior and interior styling features that bring it in line with its latest design language. The Elantra shares some cues with the larger Sonata but its styling is more similar to the new Tucson. The US-spec cars will be equipped with the new 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines with six-speed manual and automatic transmission choices.
These vehicles will start selling in early 2011. One month after the Elantra is released, Hyundai will launch an all-new compact coupe inspired by the Veloster Concept. Last June, Hyundai confirmed to Motor Trend that the shooting brake-shaped hatch will debut in Detroit and is likely to arrive at showrooms by the fall of 2011. This four-seater will be powered by the 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, which delivers 140hp and runs on 40 miles per gallon.
It’s expected that it will have the same six-speed manual and automatic gearbox choices. The vehicle has yet to be given a name but sources say that it will not be “Veloster.” Among the names being considered is the “Tiburon” name. Hyundai is also working on the next-generation Accent but no debut date has been announced yet. The car has been released in China and Russia as the Verna and the Concept RB. [via automobilemag]
