Hyundai announced today that the new 2011 Elantra will be produced in at the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama (HMMA) starting in late fall this year. This means that Hyundai's three most popular models (Elantra, Sonata, and Sante Fe) will now be built in the United States.

For those who don’t know, the 2011 Elantra sedan will make its debut in November, at the 2010 LA Auto Show and promises to offer class-leading fuel economy and a completely new design inspired by the 2011 Sonata.

Currently, the 2011 Sonata is the best-selling vehicle in Hyundai’s U.S. lineup, with sales of 128,484 though the end of August, a 50% increase over the same period last year. According to Hyundai’s U.S. CEO John Krafcik, with some help of the 2011 Sonata, the Korean manufacturer may set an all-time record” for U.S. sales in September.

"We're thrilled to be adding another pillar of the Hyundai lineup to our production mix here at HMMA," said Ashley Frye, director of production, HMMA. "We've been extremely proud to build both Sonata and Santa Fe on our assembly line, both of which have been hugely successful models for Hyundai in the U.S. and we hope to carry that momentum with us as we embark on the new 2011 Elantra."
