2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee receives the Top Safety Pick from IIHS

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has given the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee the Top Safety Pick status. It takes its place alongside the 2010 Jeep Patriot, equipped with available seat mounted airbag, which also received the coveted recognition recently. To qualify for this award, a vehicle must get the highest rating of good in front, side, rear, and rollover tests and it must also be equipped with electronic stability control.
Scott Kunselman, Senior Vice President Engineering, Chrysler Group LLC, said that the all-new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee is the first production vehicle to launch since its alliance with Fiat. He regarded the 'Top Safety Pick' as a great way to start its 2011 product offensive. He said that the IIHS recognition of five products emphasizes Chrysler Group's engineering capability and leadership in occupant protection.
The 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee has passive features as well as accident-avoidance features. These include ESC with traction control, Brake Assist and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), driver and front-passenger active head restraints, front seat-mounted side airbags and advanced multi-stage front airbags.
