Jeep’s medium-sized SUV, the Patriot, will receive a few changes to its engine options and trim levels. The 2011 Patriot will be equipped with a new diesel powerplant, which offers improved fuel efficiency and greater torque. Mercedes-Benz will provide the new 2,200 cc CRD, which replaces the unit borrowed from Volkswagen’s 2.0 TDi. As a result of the modifications, the SUV now has 163 hp and a considerably wider spread of torque offered from lower RPM.
Compared to the previous model, the output of this latest Patriot has 23 extra hp and 10 Nm of torque. This is actually a very versatile fuel efficient SUV, which can return 42.8 mpg or 5.7 l/100 km (combined) and have reduced CO2 emissions.
The Jeep Patriot is capable of hitting a top speed of 117 mph to 125 mph (188 to 201 km/h), and it could accelerate from zero to 62 mph in 10.7 seconds. But the towing capacity area is where the most major improvement was seen. The towing capacity area is now 2,000 kg compared to the 1,500 kg (4,400 lbs compared to 3,300 lbs) that the older model has.
