Ford Mustang, which represents American style and performance, arrives with a new design as well as smart, innovative features. Dave Pericak, Mustang chief engineer, commented that the new Mustang is the "perfect example of continuing to build on excellence." He added that it takes the brilliance of the 5.0-liter and V6 to a higher level. He further stated that the vehicle has been "spot-on functionally," adding that they are now adding more features and technology to enhance the driver’s experience further. The new model Mustang is set to be available for sale in the spring of 2012. It comes with a more aggressive design and a significantly more prominent grille.

Furthermore, a more powerful splitter is added. The GT's hood comes with functional heat extractors specifically designed to bring hot air out of the engine compartment, cooling the engine. Mustang chief designer Darrell Behmer commented that they are providing a "more distinctive and emotional design presence" that commemorates Mustang's total performance. He added that the latest design is "very respectful of its heritage" while still looking forward to a more modern and powerful appeal. Rocker panels along the vehicle are now body-color for a more premium appearance.

The back has been updated with a high-gloss black panel connecting the tail lamps. Keeping the sequential turn signal that Mustang is known for, the tail lamps also provide a smoked appearance that complements the more purposeful look up front. Other new features of the design are the standard high-intensity discharge (HID) headlamps on both GT and V6 vehicles. Signature lighting plays into the technology updates for 2013 as well, with two individual light-emitting diode bars decorating the front headlamps and three LED ropes creating the iconic three-bar back lights.
