Although it was not even launched, the new Lexus CT 200h made quite a buzz on the market. Lexus announced today that its engineers obtained the impossible and the new CT 200h will be the most aerodynamically efficient car in its class, with Cd 0.28 (coefficient of drag).

Using extensive computer aided design and wind tunnel testing, the engineers achieved the smoothest possible passage through the air and kept the impressive design. Lexus says that every aspect of the car has been detailed for airflow management. The front bumper features a sharply sculpted front air dam. Optimized bumper corner angles and door mirrors styled like those of the ultra-exclusive LFA supercar were designed in order to smooth the flow of air over the front and down the sides of the vehicle in order to minimize turbulence in the wheelarches.

Also the rear of the car is carefully controlled by the tapered shape of the cabin sides. A Deeper roof spoiler and aerodynamic fins at the corners of the rear windows as well as the sharp, near-vertical junction of the rear wing and bumper also improve the aerodynamics of the car.

Some of the aerodynamic underbody elements include a front lower absorber, under covers for the engine, centre floor, tank side and rear floor, front and rear wheelarch spats and rocker mouldings. New air diffuser fins have also been added to the front under cover. Even the installation of the main exhaust silencer as well as the shape of the rear bumper, were designed in order to create smoothest possible airflow. The production version of the Lexus CT 200h will make its debut in October, at the 2010 Paris Motor Show.
