2011 Lexus CT200h

Lexus announced today the details of the 2011 CT 200h production version. All of you folks waited the technical details, so here they are: the car is powered by a 1.8-liter 98 hp (73kW VVT-i) gas engine but also by an 80 hp (60 kW) electric motor, in order to deliver a total output of 134 hp (100kW). With these numbers, the CT 200h can accelerate to 60 mph in just 9.8 seconds, and has a combined EPA estimated fuel economy rating of 42 mpg. As expected, the new car generates less NOx and zero particulate emissions compared to an equivalent diesel engined vehicle.

In the EV mode, the car acts like an electric car and has a total range of up to 1 mile at speeds of up to 28 mph. The 2011 CT 200h offers two distinct driving moods, Dynamic and Relaxing, as well as four driving modes: full hybrid's EV, ECO, NORMAL and SPORT.

Just like the LS 600h which uses LED headlamps for low beam, the new CT 200h uses a total of 89 LEDs: 46 are used in front, 8 used for the door mirror-mounted turn indicators and 35 in the rear. In order to save more energy, a Digital Signal Processing-integrated (DSP), eight-channel, full range class D amplifier makes its first appearance in the CT 200h.

This unit consumes 50 percent less power than a conventional, analogue-powered amplifier and, with its weight reduced from 2.9 lbs. to 2.1 lbs., is 26 percent lighter. Regarding its aerodynamics, the car has a drag coefficient (Cd) of just 0.29, which makes it the most aerodynamically efficient car in its class.
