2011 Opel Meriva revealed ahead of Geneva Motor Show

This is the second generation Opel Meriva, a new MPV which will make its official debut in March at the Geneva Motor Show! "Innovative, versatile and elegant": these are the words from the manufacturer to describe this new vehicle which will set a new standard for automotive versatility with a multitude of innovative features engineered to optimize the flexible use of space. Ok, now let's see what's new at this second generation Meriva.
First of all, the vehicle introduces the new rear-hinged rear doors, called FlexDoors, which is a first from a volume manufacturer in the industry. That is really special about these doors, is that they open independently without the need for a clamshell overlap by the front doors. This is possible due to a conventional B-pillar, while ensuring good body rigidity and side impact protection. The FlexDoors also open up to 84 degrees, a big improvement if we thing that the standard is 68-70 degrees. Also, the front passenger benefit from the same 84 degrees opening angle which means that the new Meriva will be a very comfortable MPV.
Regarding its design, the new Meriva moves forward Opel's new design language, introduced by the Insignia and the new Astra. We can see a lower, sweeping roof-line combined with Opel's signature blade side-body motif and the wave rear window line in order to give the car a distinctive character and look. Inside, we have six different levels of colour and trim.
Under the hood we find economical and efficient turbocharged engines offering a power bandwidth from 75 to 140 hp. Also, an even more economical ecoFLEX version will be offered. The new Meriva will be offered with 5 and 6-speed manual transmissions as well as a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The car will be built in Zaragoza, Spain and will go on sale this summer.
