Porsche revealed today the 2011 911 Speedster, a limited edition which pays homage to the first model that carried the Speedster badge, the 356 Speedster. The new car is different from the standard Porsche models: it is with 60 millimetre lower, has a more racked windscreen, a flat contour of the sporty-look manual hood as well as the characteristic double-bubble hardcover for the soft top. The body of this rear-wheel drive with its 44 millimetre wider stands out even more. Under the hood, we find a 3.8-litre flat six delivering 408 hp (300 kW), with 23 hp more comparing it with the Carrera S, but the same amount of power delivered by the 2011 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS.
The car has an average fuel consumption of just 10.3 litres/100 km (27.43 mpg imp) (NEDC). These numbers are obtained using the seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) which transmits the power to the rear axle fitted with a standard differential lock. The new Speedster also comes with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) as standard. Regarding the safety, the German manufacturer says that its engineers further improved the rollover protection system, standard on all open-top Porsche models.
Inside, the car features a hand-finished interior in black smooth-finish leather with numerous exterior colour painted details exclusive to the Speedster. These include decorative designs with checkerboard patterns in the seat centre section of the adaptive sports seats reminiscent of a chequered flag, and the leather side bolsters in the exterior colour. As you can see from the photos, the new car comes in a new exterior colour dubbed “Pure Blue”, been developed exclusively for the Speedster, providing an intriguing contrast with the tinted front lights, black headlight rings, black windscreen surround and other black decorative designs. The manufacturer offers also the Carrara White colour, at no extra cost. The 2011 Porsche 911 Speester will make its debut at this year’s Paris Motor Show, next to the 2011 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS. The new model will be manufactured in a limited edition of just 356 units, each priced at €201,682. According to Porsche, the car will hit the dealerships in December.
